Koi Fariyaad – Tum Bin

Tum Bin/Without you, was a surprise hit from 2001 with its romantic songs turning into blockbusters. The tragic romance of this simple plot, tugged the hearts of many youngsters at that time. This song/ghazal penned by Faaiz Anwar and beautifully sung by Jagjit Singh is also an anonymous request, so I am giving it a try.

Original Lyrics-Koi Fariyaad

Koyi Fariyaad Tere Dil Mein Dabi Ho Jaise
Koyi Fariyaad Tere Dil Mein Dabi Ho Jaise
Tune Aankhon Se Koyi Baat Kahi Ho Jaise
Jaagte Jaagte Ek Umr Kati Ho Jaise
Jaagte Jaagte Ek Umr Kati Ho Jaise
Jaan Baaki Baaki Hai Magar Saas Ruki Ho Jaise

Jaanta Hoon Aapko Sahare Ki Zarurat Nahin
Main Sirf Saath Dene Aaya Hoon

Har Mulaakat Pe Mehsoos Yehi Hota Hai
Har Mulaakat Pe Mehsoos Yehi Hota Hai
Mujhse Kuch Teri Nazar Pooch Rahi Ho Jaise

Raah Chalte Huve Aksar Yeh Ghumaan Hota Hai
Raah Chalte Huve Aksar Yeh Ghumaan Hota Hai
Woh Nazar Chupke Mujhe Dekh Rahi Ho Jaise
Woh Nazar Chupke Mujhe Dekh Rahi Ho Jaise

Ek Lamhe Mein Simat Aaya Hai Sadiyon Ka Safar
Ek Lamhe Mein Simat Aaya Hai Sadiyon Ka Safar
Zindagi Tez Bahut Tez Chali Ho Jaise
Zindagi Tez Bahut Tez Chali Ho Jaise

Is Tarah Pehron Tujhe Sochta Rehta Hoon Main
Is Tarah Pehron Tujhe Sochta Rahta Hoon Main
Meri Har Saas Tere Naam Likhi Ho Jaise
Meri Har Saas Tere Naam Likhi Ho Jaise

Translation of Koi Fariyaad by bollywoodtarjuma

Like a prayer buried deep inside,
Like a word whispered by your eyes,
I have been awake all my life,
with my soul stuck in the dying sighs.

“I know you don’t need support,
I am just here to stand beside you”

Every time I see you,
I can sense your questions,
though you only look,
in silence.

As I walk alone,
I often imagine those eyes,
staring at me
secretively.

Travels of a millennia,
have converged in my life,
a life that moved so quickly,
so quietly.

Your thoughts are etched in my mind,
hour after hour
as if my life,
always belonged to you

Sham Se Aankh Mein – Marasim

This soothing number of profound missing is not from Bollywood. It’s an independent album that was a collaboration between the Ghazal king, Jagjit Singh and my very favorite poet, Gulzar saab. It’s a request by Shristi and I am more than happy to try. I love the economy of word and phrase in the song and the completely natural rhythm coming though beautifully. Please leave a comment if you have non-Bollywood requests, I will give my best!

Original Lyrics-Sham Se Aankh Mein

Shaam se aankh mein nami si hai (2)
Aaj phir aap ki kami si hai

Dafn kardo hume ke saans bhi le (2)
nabz kuch der se thami si hai (2)
Aaj phir aap ki kami si hai

Waqt rehta nahin kahin tik kar (2)
Iss ki aadat bhi aadmi si hai (2)
Aaj phir aap ki kami si hai

Koi rishta nahin raha phir bhi (2)
Ek tasleem lazmi si hai (2)
Aaj phir aap ki kami si hai…

Translation of Sham Se Aankh Mein by bollywoodtarjuma

Once again,
my eyes moisten
as the twilight arrives,
along with your absence.

Once again,
my pulse slows down,
wishing to be burried alive,
to feel my breath,
to feel alive

Once again,
Time reminds me,
that it won’t stay forever,
just like human relationships.

Once again,
I wish you had said goodbye*
even though what we had
was long dead.

*A goodbye/farewell is my interpretation of the word ‘tasleem’, though it can mean salutation too. An alternate translation would be:

Once again,
I offer you my salutation,
even though what we had
is long dead.
